Let me begin:
We have the profound privilege of being blessed with a lovely Baby-Girl (well
she is 6 years now, a Mischievous and Happy-Go-Lucky Child). Drives my
better-part Supriya round the bend with her immensely stubborn behavior.
Children are supposed to drive all round-the-bend.
Never believed that a child is capable
of bringing the parents down on their knees. Now, I am a believer! We are
obsessed with Anoushka and are keen to see her flower into a decent, intensely
independent, humane and strong-willed individual.
The above are the simple beliefs of a
normal Middle-Class family. What about the unfortunate souls who haven't had
the privilege of their Mother's FIRST breast feed. No rocket science here; I am
referring to the 8-9 pound abandoned babies! to get a realistic feel and
getting some sleepless nights, do visit the St. Catherine's Institution for
Girls in Veera Desai.
IMPORTANT: Unlike the ghastly treatment
meted out in some institutions, St. Catherine's is a whiff of fresh air. The
institute is conducting an excellent job at according care to the 350
residents.
Some facts: The institution is
residence to 350 girls from the following categories:
1) Abandoned Babies (some even in
garbage bins)
2) Sexually Molested and runaway girls
3) Orphaned Girls
4) HIV Positive children
5) There are a couple of more
categories which I will retrain from punctuating
I remember going to the institution as
a child with my father. They used to supplement their income by selling
Poultry. Was later discontinued for some reason.
The facilities provided at St.
Catherine's are excellent by all standards. They have a school, medical center,
excellent dormitories for the girls and a beautifully laid out lush green
surrounding. However, there are certain facilities that need to be incorporated
in the complex. They are as follows:
The institution has about 2-3 acres of
arable-land that could be put to logical use. We are hoping to create vegetable
beds and set up a Mushroom Farming Unit within the facility. For this endeavor,
we are keen to garner the support from the Indian Corporate World (even Private
donations are welcome).
By Donations: Our definition is a bit
different, the institution requires infrastructure such as:
A) Earth Movers to level the land and
Fertile Soil
B) Irrigation Equipment for spraying
water
C) Experts are Crop Management
D) Surplus Materials for Construction
E) Technically Qualified Professionals
keen on donating their invaluable time to help construct structures
F) IT Professionals to set up an Online
Donations Gateway
G) Experts in Mushroom Farming
H) A Poultry Brand to Help start up a
Facility within St. Catherine's
The aim of the above is to expectations
is to empower St. Catherine's to generate captive income and curtail their
dependency on grants (even infinitesimally, it will be an achievement).
IMPORTANT:
As a rule, the girl-child is a far superior race within all living organisms on
the planet. However, this lovely human does have a Delicate Metabolism or
perhaps Sensitive. It would be touching gesture if Pharmaceutical Brands could
render their support through counseling, medicare supplies as well as a near
continuous supply of Sanitary products. This is indeed the very basic of all
requirements.
Likewise, International Schools could
offer their teachers for counseling in education. The list is endless. I must
at this juncture mention that St. Catherine's hasn't mandated me with the above
exercise. I am only trying to be a catalyst in the above venture.
There are girls who are inclined
towards arts and design. Some of them are experts in "Warli Tribal"
design besides artificial jewelry.
May I request all those who read this
content to accord their support or recommend St. Catherine's to key
influencer's within the business industry. Sister Vinita from St. Catherine's
is available on following numbers +91-22-26762312 +91-22-26766906.
Epilogue:
My command over the Queen's Language is minimal, hence any grammatical errors
may kindly be ignored. If I had a few millions, I would have gladly dedicated
the funds to the initiative. I don't stand to gain anything moetarily and this
endeavor is dedicated to the upliftment of the Children in general.
